Yeah that face pretty much covers it.

Yeah that face pretty much covers it.

Le sigh.  You would think that an episode that had quite a bit of Sylar would be pleasing, at least to me.  You would think that, but you would be wrong.  This would be because Sylar’s having his 2343th who am I? crisis and the circus freaks are not pushing him dark side fast enough for my liking.  Oh they tried but Nathan’s goody good nature crept up at the most inopportune of times and ruined the Ghostbusting fun.  I’ll get to that though, because even though I bitch about it, it was by far the best part of the episode.

Why is that?  Well because the rest of the episode was, as Tripp dubbed it, An After School Special.  Make that a Very Special After School Special.  And you can’t have “special” without Hiro being prominently involved, now can you?  He defines “special” after all.  But Hiro was not the only member involved in After School Specials, oh no, they had to draw HRG and Pretty Peter into their own version as well, which spun out of Hiro’s.  Hate.  Which to talk about first?

Peter is trying my patience and my love by helping Hiro.

Peter is trying my patience and my love by helping Hiro.

Hiro is in the hospital now, where he refuses to stay in his bed and instead keeps wandering around and talking to poor Emma.  He figured out she was deaf after she told him about 3 times, so I guess that puts him one up on Pretty but Dim Peter.  Peter unleashed Hiro on the poor deaf girl, telling her to ask him about having powers as Hiro was the ultimate person to teach her about how “good” powers could be.  So, she made the mistake of asking.  First he raved for awhile and she couldn’t understand him, then he talked like she was retarded and could understand nothing.  Why she didn’t just laser kill him then and there is beyond me.

But if she had, then we would have missed out on his damn magic performance.  Yeah, they were having some show for the sick kids and Hiro pretended to be a magician, stopping time so he could disappear.  Sadly, he did not permanently disappear.  The best part about this scene was this nurse who was quite irritated and was making faces because he was out of bed.  But then she succumbed to his charm (as if he has any) and she was no longer remotely cool.

Hiro and Emma got to talking about how he wants to use his power to help people, even though that’s killing him.  He doesn’t care, it is worth it if he dies helping others.  Yep, whatever.  Just hurry up and die, it would help me and my enjoyment of the show immensely.  At the end of the episode, instead of waiting for Peter, he took off to go back in time and save his one true love, Charlie.  Yay for her return, boo for more Hiro next week.

Why was Claire even there? Are her lips lonely?

Why was Claire even there? Are her lips lonely?

While Hiro was irritating a deaf woman, Peter went to HRG to ask him to help him find a healer so he could save the moron.  Yeah, Peter is on my shit list, despite the Pretty.  HRG conveniently remembers a kid in Georgia that he went to see a couple of years ago that could heal.  Peter had grabbed Hiro’s power to teleport so he and HRG take off to find the kid.  On a side note, Claire was in this episode for some inexplicable reason, hanging with her dad as if last time we saw her she was not having a girl on girl moment with her roommate.  No reaction to the kiss, nothing.  Good job Heroes.

Annoying, fugly healer, may we never see him again.

Annoying, fugly healer, may we never see him again.

When our boys get to Georgia, they find all the plants outside the house dead, dead birds and dead parents in the living room.  Fun.  Anyway, Healer boy, whose name I think is Jeremy but who really cares?, was upstairs shooting at them and telling them to leave.  Seems that he’s lost control of his power and now kills instead of heals.  HRG tells him he knows how to help him and Peter zaps up and surprises the kid, who fires his gun.  Peter stops time but too late as he’s been shot in the chest.  Yeah, I finally got to see a sliver of Peter skin but it was all bloody.  Fuck you too, Heroes.

HRG convinces Healer boy to try touching Peter, seeing as he’s already on the path to killing him and all.  With his coaching, Healer heals and out pops the bullet.  Peter helps himself to the power and heads back to Hiro, the short way seeing as he can no longer teleport since they made the stupid decision to change his powers, again.  HRG stays behind to counsel the kid, finally having found his purpose again.  I think he needs to find his way to the carnival because emo-Healer boy has terrible hair and an annoying voice.  No more of him.  Peter gets back to the hospital but of course doofus is already gone, zapped to find Charlie and hopefully inches closer to death.  Tripp and I are hoping that Peter touches Emma or another powered person soon and loses healing before Hiro comes back.

What is more disturbing? The memories, the eyebrows or the hair?

What is more disturbing? The memories, the eyebrows or the hair?

And now, the circus.  Sylar doesn’t know who the hell he is but lo and behold, there’s a dude at the freakshow that can help him recover his true memories.  They take him to the fun house, because we should all have our freaky murderous memories appear in multiple mirrors, and that’s what happens.  He sees killing his mom, various powered people, Elle (SOB!), cake woman…all awesome Sylar moments that freak him the hell out.  He runs to Samuel and cries about being a killer.  Sam’s all like, dude, you’re awesome, suck it up.

Elle power!!! I'm glad they at least showed a flash of her in his memories.

Elle power!!! I'm glad they at least showed a flash of her in his memories.

Later, Zorro, whose real name is Edgar and that is terrible so I shall not call him that, starts fighting with Sylar, throwing his knives near him.  Sylar flicks his wrist and tosses the knives right back.  Way awesome.  Then he throws Zorro into some concrete.  Zorro is pissed but Samuel is happy.  He invites Ghostbuster cop to the circus and tells Sylar to go take care of him.  He goes to the funhouse and tries, even whipping out the Elle power, but he can’t kill when it comes down to it.  I blame Nathan.  Zorro pops in and carves up Ghostbuster and bitches to Samuel about how useless Sylar is.  Samuel tells him right now maybe it’s good that he’s not ready to kill and then he has Lydia (AKA Tattoo Woman) lead him off to a trailer for some sex, which of course we don’t get to see.  Zorro is pretty pissed about this, so I assume he’s hot for Lydia.  I imagine Sylar will have to kill Zorro eventually, which will be good.

So that was the episode.  Sylar’s officially been baptized as a circus freak (literally, they lowered him in water and baptized him) and he’s fighting his nature still.  It looks like, from scenes, that he might actually be in Matt, which I did not think was happening but it could be.  I do know they’re going to have Sylar in bed with Janice which is not acceptable.  Not at all.  I do not look forward to that but I will pretend it’s Matt and still just his mind.  It’s the only way to get through.

So there you have it, another lackluster episode that was way OTT with the “helping others” shit and not remotely balanced with “killing others” on the Sylar end.  Fix it.  Soon.

A good way to win me over, tight white shirts and Peter Petrelli. A better way would be to get the shirt off completely.

A good way to win me over, tight white shirts and Peter Petrelli. A better way would be to get the shirt off completely.

I made the title a question for which I have no answer this early.  Definitely not yet though.  A few intriguing things are happening that are enough to keep me tuning in, beyond the pretty (of which there was much!).  I don’t feel like doing a recap of 2 hours worth of show because you know, that’s a lot of effort and my brain can’t handle that.  Instead, we’ll go back to my tried and true list of things I liked and things I didn’t.  I’m sure I’ll forget some stuff but I’ll do my best to cover the whole thing.

Things I didn’t like:

  • It looks to be the year of Hiro.  He was ALL OVER the first two episodes, young him and current him.  The good news is he’s supposedly dying.  The bad news is, someone will probably heal him just to thwart me.  My money is on Mohinder, because you know he can only be smart when it sucks for him to be so.
  • Tracy being alive and well and possibly partnering with HRG.  I could totally handle it if that partnership were to be nothing but a partnership but you know that bitch is getting naked soon.  Probably with HRG, thus decooling him in a major way.  I am not pleased.
  • The rise of Janice and Matt’s total memory loss when it comes to his love of a lifetime with Daphne.  He remembers her dalliances but not his own.  It irritates me.  The writers brought on all these new characters, let’s not pretend that they never existed.
  • Danko’s death.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with him dying, but dying at the hands of Zorro?  He was Sylar’s to kill, dammit.
  • Hiro getting some time traveling skills back.  I don’t know if he can go anywhere but the carnival, but his new purpose of going back in time and making life better for people just annoys me.  Stop trying to force that character down our throats.  What happened to Hiro of season 1?
  • Ando/Hiro’s sister getting together.  Tripp said it best when we IMed through the show, if she hated him for a zillion years because Hiro spilled Ando’s slushy on her, then the bitch doesn’t deserve Ando now.  Tripp didn’t say bitch, but I will.  Also, is that the same actress?  I remember her as being way prettier but maybe I’m wrong.
  • The carnival itself.  I’m afraid of clowns…not like screaming afraid but I do not like them.  AT ALL.  Every time they cut to the carnival I wait to see a freaky clown appear, even worse, a freaky clown with some kind of powers.  When that happens (and you know it will just to hurt me) I will be here screaming about it.  Take that to the bank.

What is this chick's power? Shirtless fortune telling?

What is this chick's power? Shirtless fortune telling?

  • The new people and their weird new powers.  I don’t know that I don’t like them, yet, but I don’t know that I do.  I mean, what is up with tattoo girl?  Samuel inks her and she comes up with faces and tells him of their importance to the carnival?  What the hell is her power?  I don’t really get Samuel’s either, I guess he’s just a Magic Ink Man?

Uh...Claire could do way better, even if she is annoying.

Uh...Claire could do way better, even if she is annoying.

  • Claire’s future lesbian lover.  Um…how do I say this without sounding like a superficial bitch?  Hmm…well screw it, I am one.  Chick is homely.  Claire is many annoying things but ugly she is not.  If she’s going to go girl, she could go better.  New girl seems psycho stalkery too…she probably killed Annie so she could room with and seduce Claire.  Freaky.
  • Not enough Sylar.  What, you know that will be a major complaint of mine until they demorph him!
Peter was very pretty.

Peter was very pretty.

Things I liked:

  • Peter…oh yes, I liked Peter.  Peter in his tight white shirt, Peter in his uniform, Peter with the ninja skills.  Milo was looking damn good last night and I appreciated it every time.  And I’m not gonna lie, when he went Ninja on Zorro, (I do not know that guys name so he has been dubbed) I squeed.  It was a beautiful thing.

    Elle! Sob!

    Elle! Sob!

  • Nathan noticing something was not quite right with his powers.  I loved the little bit of Elle’s power we got to see, though I would love it more if she were NOT DEAD!

Hello mother! Angela seeing Sylar in Nathan is going to be fun.

Hello mother! Angela seeing Sylar in Nathan is going to be fun.

  • Angela seeing Sylar in her mind when she’s with Nathan.  That’s going to be fun to watch unfold until Sylar is back for good.
  • Claire’s hair.  Marked improvement without the wig.  I’d still be happy if she failed to exist, but since that’s not an option at least her wig won’t be sending me into fits of rage this year.
  • No Mohinder.  I don’t know if he’s still in the desert trying to right his father’s wrongs but less drain brain on the scene is always a good thing.
  • Samuel himself.  Yeah, I’m not sure about the carnival thing but I found Samuel to be rather compelling.  I have no idea what his deal is and why he’s interested in Hiro and the Petrelli’s (thanks to tattoo girl) but I am intrigued.

If Matt insanity is the only way I get to see Sylar, bring it on.

If Matt insanity is the only way I get to see Sylar, bring it on.

  • Parkman’s decent into madness or the darkside.  Tripp wasn’t happy with the Sylar involvement here but I was…firstly, I get to see him, so you know, happy me.  Secondly, he’s not Sylar.  He’s a figment of Matt’s screwed up mind.  He’s feeling crappy about what he did and he’s projecting Syler into all these situations, from kidnapping his baby to rehab.  Watching Matt freak out in front of all the other addicts cracked me up, as did him being at an addiction meeting for his mind control issues.  I think Matt has the coolest power this side of Sylar and Peter and it’s the one I would take if I couldn’t have them all.  And no lie, I’d use that stuff and I’d probably go darkside myself with it.  I think it’s gonna be fun.

    Best. News. Ever.

    Best. News. Ever.

  • Hiro is dying.  I know it probably won’t actually happen but I’ll cling to the hope all year long.  Yes, I have issues.

I think that hits the big highlights for me.  I really don’t know what is happening with the carnival but I am looking forward to Peter/Samuel interaction.  The fact that the broken compass worked for Peter has to mean something, though what I do not know.  Hopefully HRG will get dragged in with the Petrelli’s and I can truly enjoy a storyline for awhile.  I loved that Nathan reached out to Peter for help with his outta control powers and want to see if anything transpires there too.  And Momma…she’s gonna pay the piper eventually for what she did.  Angela vs. Sylar will be fascinating.

I loved this ninja knife fight scene between Peter and Zorro. More please.

I loved this ninja knife fight scene between Peter and Zorro. More please.

The murder on campus stuff interests me a bit, unless it is the psycho future lesbian lover.  Then all bets are off.  The adventures of Hiro going back to right the wrongs has me petrified but hopefully enough other stuff will be going on to get me through.

I’ll be back next week, hopefully with plenty more pretty pictures of Peter and Sylar.  You know that’s what I’m really in it for, right?

They say that politics makes for strange bedfellows.

They say that politics makes for strange bedfellows.

So it seemed to me that Heroes was all about bonds; either repairing old ones or forming new ones or forming ones that should have been there all along but weren’t due to craptastic parenting.  Angela finally let Peter in, as much as Angela does anyway.  Nathan and Claire spent some quality time together and got to know one another better.  And of course our beloved serial killer has taken up with a new, much more formidable partner.  Watching those two play off of each other is going to be enjoyable, if this episode was anything to go by.

MAtrelli is clearly in distress if she'll let herself look like this.

MAtrelli is clearly in distress if she'll let herself look like this.

After being saved by her son, Angela decided the place to be was the church she used to attend.   She sat there and prayed and refused to tell Peter anything, because you know that’s how Angela rolls.  She apologizes for how they raised the Petrelli boys, supporting them but not giving them support.  Peter had a nice emo moment of asking God why he was given his power to help and now was being hunted for it.  He asked for a sign and then the candles went out and in stormed the feds and HRG.  I guess that’s a sign huh?  Of what I am not sure.  He and Angela went and hid in the confessional, which I found hilarious since Angela confesses nothing.  While there she does tell him that she was once idealistic like he was but nobody believed her and she ended up resorting to lies and manipulation and betrayal to save the world.  Visiting the church seemed to have served her well, for she had enough of an epiphany to inform Peter that they needed to go see her sister, his aunt.  It was rather clear by Peter’s expression that he didn’t know he had an aunt.  Shocker, that!  But it got me hoping again…maybe Angela’s sister is Sylar’s real mom?  Yes, I still refuse to give up on a family tie between those two, why do you ask?  Anyway, HRG found them but pretended he didn’t and got the feds off their backs for this day.  Off to Aunties!

Who doesn't bond over tequila shots?

Who doesn't bond over tequila shots?

In Mexico, Claire and Nathan were shacking up together and causing pervs far and wide to get excited.  Okay, it was one perv but still.  They had only money for one night (in Mexico? I doubt that) so Nathan decided to challenge 4 frat guys to a tequila shots contest.  Apparently that’s how he got through his military service.  Fun!  Anyway, why he took on 4 is beyond me, but it gave Claire the opportunity to step in when Dad was unable to finish the job.  She drank frat boy under the table and seemed to have to fake drunk once but appeared unaffected.  Is that part of her immortality thing?  Beer bongs for everyone!  She dragged dear old drunken Dad back to their room and he gave her a speech about how he was going to make everything alright again.  Sober Nathan didn’t have the same conviction that drunk Nathan had though and Claire stormed off after telling him how fantastic he was supposed to be, how he was superman and could fly.  Nathan made amends by getting her back the necklace she sold to get them the tequila cash and convinced her to stick with him and help him make it right.  Father/daughter bonding at its finest!

Sylar likes showing off for his new partner.

Sylar likes showing off for his new partner.

Of course the most interesting bonds are the ones that form between the unlikeliest of partners.  I wasn’t sure how I felt about Sylar pairing up with Danko, as it has been my greatest hope that Sylar would be the one to kill Danko and save everybody, all while not seeking any redemption for who he is.  Not that this partnership means that Sylar ultimately won’t kill Danko either, I’m sure once they have everybody captured or dead, Sylar would kill him as the only one who knows he’s alive.  Not that that’ll happen, but I still hold on to a head cutting in Danko’s future.

Danko and co are after some guy we’ve never heard of, James Martin, a professor whose power is unknown.  He sends 3 guys after him and they all end up shot in the head and HRG is none too pleased.  He’s told Danko several times that pairing up with someone with abilities is the best way to capture people with abilities but of course he didn’t want to hear that.  He heads over to investigate and when he returns to his car, Sylar’s kicking it in the backseat to the tune of “Runaway”.  I love that they’re giving him theme music this year!  He offers partnership but Danko isn’t quite ready to accept it yet and before he can shoot Sylar, he disappears.

Who doesn't like a head for a present?

Who doesn't like a head for a present?

Danko goes back to his office and some guy comes in to compliment him on his speech to his men about finding the one who killed some of them.  While he’s pondering that he gets a phone call from Sylar telling him that his quarry is a shapeshifter and there’s a fourth headless body on the roof.  Danko opens the package to find a head, the head of the guy who just complimented him on his pretty speech.  How very Seven of them!  A chase ensues and he manages to get some shots off at the asskisser.  All asskissers should be shot!  He gets away in a crowd of people as a new form, a janitor he happened to run past on the way down the stairs.  I must say, shapeshifting is a cool power but it looks gross, like bugs are under their skin as they change.  Ick!

Danko goes back to the shapeshifter’s apartment and happens upon Sylar again, who is there to show him just how you find a person with power.  He studies the pictures and discovers some matches of a club the dude goes to and picks up chicks as various men of power.  All that seeking out of people with powers has made our little killer quite the detective.  After a bit of a pissing contest, they head to the club together and see the shapeshifter is there as none other than Danko himself.  He’s totally getting action which you know has to burn Danko since he doesn’t appear to get any on his own.  Sylar’s amused and tells Danko that he’s a better him than he is.  They’re spotted and a chase ensues and he bursts out the door, except that it’s the real Danko and Sylar is behind him.  They chat for a second and then Danko shoots him before fake Sylar can kill him and the real Sylar appears and is disappointed because he killed the dude.  But Danko tells him he didn’t kill him and asks if he can take his power without the messy head cutting.  Sylar smiles and leans in close.

Sylar checks out his old face after dropping one of his new ones.

Sylar checks out his old face after dropping one of his new ones.

Next thing we see is HRG seeing Sylar in a body bag with a knife in the back of his head.  Danko looks all sorts of pleased with himself and heads to his car where he awaits the female who zipped up the body bag.  She slides in and then after some facial contortions we have our Sylar back.  Yep, he zipped up his own body bag.  Danko points out that in the end he’ll be the only one with any powers and Sylar grins over that one and says “funny how that works” while the Rolling Stones “We Gotta Get Outta This Place.”  Again, awesome use of music since it’s playing as Nathan and Claire leave Mexico and Peter and Angela leave the church and Sylar and Danko leave the club.

I definitely liked this episode better than the last one.  Things happen and story advanced.  The Petrelli’s are headed back together and a new relative is set to enter next week.  Danko’s made a deal with the devil and now Sylar is going to be after our Heroes once again.  You must admit, he’s at his best when he’s hunting his fellow powered people!  I can’t wait til next week, it’s Angelacentric and they say we’re going to find out some of her secrets, at least the ad did!  Is it Monday yet?  I never look forward to Mondays but I’m already ready for the next one!

The true leader of the Heroes!

The true leader of the Heroes!

So there was a lot of hype going into last night’s Heroes:  Bryan Fuller was back and the show was going to return to form!  Strike up the band and roll out the red carpet!  Well a funny thing happened on the way to the celebration; the episode totally fell flat for me.  Now I will say that part of it could have been the inclusion of all of my least favorite characters, minus Claire, and the absence of my faves but for a brief appearance by Peter.  I make allowances that that might have factored into my lack of excitement with the episode.  Still, though, I thought it was much ado about nothing.

We found out that Micah is indeed Rebel, long specced by most of the Heroes watching population.  I’m not disappointed by this, I was glad to see the kid again though he’s turned into Walt from Lost.  The Heroes need him on their side since he’s smarter than all of them combined.  Still, the reveal fell flat for me because of the focus on Tracy making herself bait and leading HRG to Rebel.  You knew darn well that she would sacrifice herself to save Micah so there was no surprise factor.  I did like the ice illusion and Danko shooting her and shattering her, but since she winked I figure she’s not really dead and will be back.  That sucks.  I am quite done with her and have been from the get go.

In other death news, Daphne finally bit it.  What was the point of all that really?  Matt gets her out of the facility and takes her to a doctor but she dies anyway?  I was completely flummoxed by her waking up and acting like she and Parkman didn’t have that relationship we never got to see and then the Paris thing.  Luckily when he started flying I realized he was planting stuff in her head (tho why would he plant the relationship was nothing part?)  I guess the dance in the sky over Paris was pretty in a very cheesy way, I just don’t get why they went ahead and killed her off anyway.  Why not have her die when she was shot?

Cute or not, this kid would drive me batty.

Cute or not, this kid would drive me batty.

I guess part of it was leading up to the reveal of baby Matt Parkman and his ex Janice, who I do not want to revisit again.  Now that Hiro and Ando have absconded with her baby, maybe she’ll disappear.  Sigh.  Sure.  Seems Daphne’s death brought on memories of the ex so I’m sure we’ll be stuck with her again.  Oh and the baby gave Hiro back his freezing time power, hooray.  He can be a hero again!  I was sooooo waiting for that to happen!  I’m so excited that he can think he’s going to save the day again!  Yes, that was sarcasm, why do you ask?  Also, Heroes, never ever rip off a beloved ET moment again, particularly not with Hiro.  Ugh.

And the baby hijinks with Hiro already suck.

And the baby hijinks with Hiro already suck.

In an aside, if I had a baby that had the power to turn on all his toys at once and drive me absolutely insane?  I wouldn’t go looking for him when he disappeared, that’s all I’m saying.  I love kids but I don’t think anybody could endure that one constantly.   Oh, and I demand that Peter get his hands on that kid and turn on some of his cooler powers.  If Hiro can get some of his back, so can Peter and he’s quite clearly going to need them based on previews.

Peter's still a momma's boy at heart.

Peter's still a mommas boy at heart.

Angela had the ninjas hot on her tail and met with Swoozie Kurtz who gave her attitude and then some cash.  Didn’t help her as she got trapped in an elevator and was being brought down to the feds, but when the door opened, there was Peter with his arms around Mommy and whisking her away to the Statue of Liberty to hang for awhile.  I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with the two of them; she was worrying to HRG that she might have pushed Peter away permanently so she has some atoning to do.  I’m also pretty mad at her for being willing to throw Micah under the bus to save her own hide.  You gotta love her mothering instincts don’t ya?  Throw the kids to the wolves!  She does make me laugh.  I wonder what she’d do with Matt Parkman Jr. and all those noisy toys?

Awesome shot of Peter and Angela looking out over NYC.

Awesome shot of Peter and Angela looking out over NYC.

So, on top of the confusing Matt/Daphne thing, we had Danko chilling in his apartment shaving with no Sylar anywhere in sight.  I was quite perturbed that my boy was not present and was not threatening and/or killing the dude.  Instead, he sets off the Danko’s alarms and he heads into the living room to find Doyle the Puppetmaster strung up like one of his marionettes.  Sylar gifted him with Doyle as a sign of good faith I guess, cause next week they’re actually meeting and Sylar is promising to help him round up the others so he can be the only special one.  Sigh.  Sylar, my love, we’d come so far and then you go and do this to me?  Why do you destroy my hopes of you and Peter teaming up to take on the government and crushing everyone in your way?  So uncool.  I’ll wait and see how it plays out but I’m quite unhappy about this unlikely union.  Still, it has me looking forward to next week so I guess that’s something.

Sylar's idea of the perfect gift.

Sylar's idea of the perfect gift.

So that was the big stuff this week.  Daphne and Tracy died, but probably only Daphne permanently.  Hiro got a power.  Matt & Mohinder are out and about again.  Peter saved Angela.  Sylar helped the enemy.  I am interested to see what Angela has to say to her boy and to see what Sylar is going to do (he still better kill Danko for me down the road, this is not too much to ask!) and to see what’s next for Matt that hopefully doesn’t involve changing diapers.  I loved him working the mind mojo on the ninja soldiers and the doctors.  Such a cool power.  If nothing else, I appreciated that!  I also loved Mohinder getting the tables turned on him by Danko yet again…silly, pretty, dumb Mohinder!  They really do need Micah to lead them all, don’t they?

Do you really want to get in this man's mind?

Do you really want to get in this man's mind?

So last night’s Heroes episode was HRGcentric, which always means never knowing quite what is up.  His flashbacks were shown in film noir fashion, showing his shades of gray.  You can’t classify him as all bad or all good, he’s always going to come in that in-between area.  This episode did nothing to clarify matters, other than to let us know Daphne is alive and HRG greatly dislikes Denko.  My money has always been on Sylar or HRG to kill The Hunter, now I’m betting the house on HRG.

Our boys figure sniping at one another is the best way to get things done. Good plan.

Our boys figure sniping at one another is the best way to get things done. Good plan.

Since we were blessedly Hiro free for the episode, we only had the 3 Stooges to contend with.  We got another glimpse of their mad kidnapping skillz and then they were in the hotel room with Matt using his mind mojo to read HRG’s mind and find out who their real enemy as.  The first flashback was of him getting a watch from Angela and being told to live a normal life.  The second one, 4 weeks prior, was him doing crossword puzzles and being bored out of his mind playing family guy.  Then Nathan showed up and told him he’d “set things in motion” and it couldn’t be undone.

HRG is so gonna kill that guy.

HRG is so gonna kill that guy.

HRG went along with Nathan and met Denko, who let it be known that he didn’t believe in shades of gray or even shades of white when it comes to our Heroes.  They all need to be killed in his viewpoint.  Clearly, something has happened in the past with The Hunter, presumably someone he loved was killed by someone with powers or something.  Or he thinks they were.  He seems a little too gung ho with the killing for it to be anything else.  HRG tried to tell him there were good people with powers but that was like talking to a brick wall.  He later showed up at the guys door with alcohol to try to reason with him but that didn’t fly either.

So sexy, but so damn stupid.

So sexy, but so damn stupid.

As a result of these memories, Matt tells them that Denko is the guy in charge and dispatches Peter two places; first to HRGs storage locker to prove that they’re getting real memories.  Peter gets some weaponry but is being viewed on camera.  Denko sends men after them but Peter tear gasses their asses and gets away.  Then Matt sends him to Denko’s to kill him, cause he’s the problem.  Why would you send Peter in this instance?  Peter will kill nobody.  Sigh.  They so need Sylar.  Anyway, Peter pulls a gun on Denko and Denko tells him to kill him so he can be proven right.  Nathan appears and convinces Peter not to kill the guy.  He does shoot him in the arm but returns to his fellow stooges.

HRG also has a memory of warning Mohinder that the government was going to round them all up, which sets Matt to raging.  Mohinder is all whiny about it and says he didn’t believe it and Matt accuses him of not wanting him to read Noah’s mind because he knew he’d find out.  True enough.  They start beating on each other and HRG escapes, but Peter caught him and dragged him back.

Peter wonders why he has to do everything while Matt and Mohinder fight.

Peter wonders why he has to do everything while Matt and Mohinder fight.

During Peter’s Denko mission, the commandos are coming in to close on Matt and Mohinder.  Mohinder goes and fights them, of course ending up captured.  HRG tells Matt that Daphne is alive and gets him to read his mind and see it’s true.  The commandos come in and Matt willingly lets them take him rather than using his mind control, I guess because he wanted to be taken to wherever Daphne was.  Peter flies up and grabs Matt, but Mohinder is taken to the holding area where he is shown Daphne footage as well.  Nathan warns him that they may just have to kill them all because they’ve taken his peaceable mission of forming concentration camps and turned it into a bad thing.  Sometimes Nathan is so stupid that I want to smack him.

She's allllllllivvvvveeeeee!!!!

She's allllllllivvvvveeeeee!!!!

HRG walks out with Denko and commits fully to the mission this time out.  He has had enough of our heroes and he’ll do whatever it takes to round them up.  This pleases The Hunter and he heads off, while HRG veers left and heads to park bench to meet with Angela again.  He lets it be known that he’ll play the government game for awhile but that he’s clearly got his own agenda, which apparently meshes with hers.  He hands her back the watch and heads off.

Mohinder's holding facility, may he stay there for awhile.

Mohinder's holding facility, may he stay there for awhile.

A quick flip to the two stooges shows Matt painting the future.  One of the paintings if of him with dynamite strapped to his chest and he did an Isaac floor painting for the full effect of DC blowing up or something.  So I guess Matt’s gonna go nutso and attack the government.  That’s a great plan.  Sigh.

Matt does his Isaac impression and DC burns.

Matt does his Isaac impression and DC burns.

So, what did all the HRG stuff mean?  I wonder if the watch that Angela gave him allowed him to have some control over just what Matt was seeing in his head?  He seemed pleased with what had occurred and like everything was going  according to plan.  Why hand back the watch now?  We know Angela has some mind power of her own so perhaps she knew the best way to let the boys see only what they wanted them to see?  This reinforces the idea that she could be the rebel as well, directing the stooges to do as she wishes.  Angela is her own shade of gray, so combined with HRG they could be up to anything.  Right now they seem to be on the side of the good guys more or less, but that could change depending on who’s winning I suppose.

Which side does Mama Petrelli come down on?

Which side does Matrelli come down on?

I missed Sylar although I agree that we don’t want to overuse him.  He’ll be back next week.  I did not miss Hiro, at all, and I’m pretty sure he won’t be around.  I suppose Matt and Peter will now have to come up with Operation Rescue Daphne (and maybe Mohinder though I doubt they care that much).  Mohinder will of course give in and help the government try to find a way to remove powers from people, because he’s Mohinder and he’s just that dumb.  Being one man down, in the case of the stooges, is probably not a bad thing, it’s less depleted brain power to contend with.

I enjoyed this episode, as I generally do all things HRG and found the time really flew.  It was nice to have everything related instead of hopping from story to story.  Here’s hoping they do more episodes this way.  Not all, but an occasional break is a good thing!

Sylar watches new pal Luke demonstrate his power.

Sylar watches new pal Luke demonstrate his power.

Sylar got a friend!  Sylar got a friend!  I am inordinately excited by this for some reason…not sure why.  The last time Sylar remotely had anything resembling a friend, it ended rather badly and crushed my shipping heart.  Poor Elle!  But something about Sylar and Luke was compelling.  I’m sure it’s the Sylar factor, he’s been the best thing on this show over the past year.  His interest in Luke’s power was understandable but he also seemed to have an empathy for his life.  The mother that didn’t understand him and the absent father figure, well, he could definitely relate to that.  I still anticipate it ending badly, but I will enjoy this little friendship while I can.  Sylar’s going to want that microwave power for himself sometime down the road I imagine!

Our favorite serial killer enjoys his work.

Our favorite serial killer enjoys his work.

I think I’ll go back to my loved it/hated it list this week because there was a lot about this episode I enjoyed but there was also a lot that left me kinda cold.  Or perplexed.  Or bothered.  So without further ado:

As usual, Heroes kills the wrong blond.

As usual, Heroes kills the wrong blond.

Things I hated:

  • The 43 hour flash ahead.  It confused me and I thought the Heroes were still wandering around the plane nearly 2 days later.  I then realized that their scenes were before the 43 hour time limit, but you can understand the confusion.  When Hiro, Mohinder, Matt and Peter are all involved, the lack of brain power can be astonishing, so it would not have surprised me to have them loitering by the plane waiting to see what happened next.
  • Hiro.  I thought he might get less annoying without his power but of course, that is not the case.  He’s determined to save the world and thinks he must re-attain his power to do that.  I do not want him to have a power…at this point I do not even want him to live.  Stop being irritating Hiro.  Whining about Ando having powers endears you to no one.
  • Peter only has one power at a time now.  It’s sort of interesting but it also makes me wish for the future Peter that was epically awesome.  And hot.  Of course now I have to root for Peter and Sylar to hold hands somewhere down the road and get Petey all those fabulous tricks.  This image does not upset me at all.
  • Mohinder being stupid as well.  Telling Hiro to just hand himself over to the cops and tell them he has no powers anymore.  Why would they believe him?  He’d at least go through a bunch of tests.  Moron.  Those 5 teaming up…le sigh.  They need to find Sylar, he is their only hope.
  • Daphne getting killed.  Was that really necessary?  Why do they insist on leaving Tracy/Nicki/Jessica alive and killing off the blonds that I actually give a damn about?  Poor Matt as he watched her get shot!  I’m holding out hope that the soldiers will make her mysteriously better, as we never saw her after they ran off.
  • Nathan’s very flimsy excuse for what he’s going.  I wish I could find it remotely believable but I don’t.  If he was still going for making the super army I could buy it, but the whole rounding them up for the good of the world thing really doesn’t wash.  He’s not protecting them from themselves at all.  Lame.
  • The 5 stooges teaming up to fight together.  They really need to find Sylar and quickly.
  • Or maybe not, Claire got a text from “the Rebel” who wants her to help them fight.  Initially I thought it might be Hiro, because it sounds like something he’d do, but I am guessing we have some mystery hero out there.  I’m slightly intrigued but mystery text messages are kinda gay.
Hiro would be marginally cooler wearing this shirt.

Hiro would be marginally cooler wearing this shirt.

Things I loved:

  • HRG and his shades of gray.  He let Peter escape twice at Claire’s request and seemingly pleasing Nathan who loves his brother enough to not want him dead, only as a prisoner.  So sweet!  I don’t know what side HRG will end up on but it’ll be to protect Claire.  That much is clear.
  • Hunter guy.  Tommy Lee Jones, as previously dubbed by me last week.  He’s bringing the scary badass vibe well.  I really can’t wait to see HRG or Sylar kill him.  You know one of them will.
  • Rednecks Are Better Lovers t-shirts.  Hiro should have worn it, would have made him a slight bit more tolerable.
  • Daphne’s “of course you do” reaction to Ando’s revelation that he and Hiro have GPS trackers.  Yep, sounded about right to me!
  • Sylar…always!  I was a little bit disturbed by the return of the straight up serial killer persona but in the end he did leave the kid alive.  For now.  “I’m gonna torture them, in front of you.”  God help me but that twisted look in his eyes was a thing of beauty.  I need to see a psychiatrist.
  • Daphne’s pointing out to Ando that he kills Hiro in the future so he must have survived the crash.  Ando’s happy reaction just made me laugh.  “Oh, that’s right, I kill him!  Hooray!”
  • Claire jumping in front of the bullets that were being sent Daphne’s way.  Yeah, she is invincible but it was nice to see her thinking of others.  She has been surprisingly tolerable these past couple of episodes.  Keep it up!  Calling Nathan Senator Sky Boy was pretty awesome.
  • The return of Matt’s mind control.  One of my absolute favorite powers by far and him getting one of the ninja soldiers to gun down the others was awesome.
  • Sylar sipping his coffee while choking the mom with his mind and then the kid shooting his microwave power at him.  Sylar’s “small world” and “we need to talk” reaction just amused me.  Zach really hits the right note with Sylar each and every time.
  • Agent Simmons actually pulling his hands up despite the knives holding him the chair and Luke microwaving him to save Sylar.   He earned that pass to live…again I say for now!  “I let you live, which is kind of a big deal for me.”  Beautiful.
  • Tracy trying to play both brothers and failing miserably at it.  Nathan double crossed her of course and Peter got away and she was sent off to be tortured.  I am not sorry about this.
  • Peter taking Nathan’s flying ability to get away.  Ahh the irony.  I liked that Nathan was relieved, despite his douchiness the rest of the time.
  • Matt’s thirst for vengeance.  I love it!  Him working his mind mojo on the soldier boys will be awesome.
  • Peter taking a leadership role.  It’s a step toward awesome Peter of the future, minus all the super cool powers.
  • Angela pretty much telling Nathan to kiss ass and handle his problems himself.  Of course I still don’t trust her not to turn Peter over sometime but right now she seems to be mad enough at Nathan that she might actually aid her other son.  We’ll see.  I love Angela, she’s always a mystery.
Peter borrows Nathan's power to get the heck outta there.

Peter borrows Nathan's power to get the heck outta there.

So that was the episode in a nutshell.  I am not happy about Daphne at all but I am happy to see Sylar kicking some butt still.  I do truly believe he’ll end up having to help the others down the line, and I really want to see that.  And of course, the Peter power thing. hehe I won’t let it go.  If moron Hiro can get his powers back, then Peter damn well should be able to somehow too.  For now it works, I just want the option of more powers later.  Next week it looks like Claire is headed back out to help our boys, who need all the help they can get I’m sure.  We’ll see what happens!

Pretty Peter, how I've missed you, welcome back!

Pretty Peter, how I've missed you, welcome back!

Last night Heroes returned and in my eyes it was with a big bang!  I pretty much loved this entire episode, so instead of doing my list of things liked and disliked, I will just chat about everything.  The only part of the show that fell flat and annoyed me continues to be Hiro acting like a child, but even that storyline will be important down the line so I guess I can deal!

We open upon clothed Tracy, who quickly becomes unclothed, because apparently an episode without Ali Larter appearing to be some kind of sex goddess is illegal in the Heroesverse.  Alright, if it drives up the ratings I will suck it up.  Anyway, Nathan’s on TV talking about rounding up the threat to our security but never identifying what that threat is.  We know it’s our Heroes but they don’t yet.  Tracy gets a call from the governor, who she’s apparently banging now since she can’t bang Nathan anymore.  At least our girl is consistent in her bed partners, huh?  After she assures him that she doesn’t know what’s going on with Nathan and talks about his meteoric rise to power, she gets off the phone and is promptly captured by some commando ninja-like dudes.  She tries her freezing power on one of them but it doesn’t work, the suit is made of something that is unaffected.  One down, several very dim boys to go.

Tracy's power fails against the super ninja suit.

Tracy's power fails against the super ninja suit.

Claire is apparently shacking up at the Petrelli manse, hanging with Grandma and deciding what college to go to.  I guess it wasn’t fun to have her be in high school anymore, so she got her GED and now can go to any college in the world.  Claire’s not so much on this though, she is sure that Sylar is still alive (smart girl) and she wants to go after him.  She’s sure that’s what her father is doing (HRG, not Nathan).  Angela poo-poos that whole idea and Claire reacts like the mature college aged kid she now is and she stomps from the room.  Angela and Nathan are talking on the phone about having to round up Matt and Peter and Claire of course listens in.  Angela sees her listening but doesn’t really seem overly disturbed by it; which left me to wonder if she actually wanted Claire to hear?  God knows getting a finger on Angela’s motivations is not easy to do, so it’s very possible that she was glad about it.

Who thought Claire would be the hero with the only brain?

Who thought Claire would be the hero with the only brain?

Claire calls Peter who is back to being a nurse and angsting over some guys death.  See, the thing is, our Heroes have gone back to leading normal lives (more or less) and yet now is when Nathan is going about rounding them up as threats to our society.  Funny timing, that.  Peter tells Claire he’ll look into it and heads off to chat with his big brother. He gets in a cab driven by none other than Mohinder, in a call back to the first episode of the series.  Silly but didn’t bother me overly much.  He and Mo chat about living normal lives and Peter gets out at the Petrelli house.  Mohinder then gets a new rider and he’s pointing a gun at Mo.  Drama!

The new bad dude, I don't know his name so I'm calling him Tommy Lee Jones.

The new bad dude, I don't know his name so I'm calling him Tommy Lee Jones.

In the part of Heroes that stinks, Hiro presents Ando with some stupid spandex superhero outfit, like he’s spiderman.  Ando complains that his power is pretty gay, he can only supercharge other heroes so what is the point?  Hiro gives him a pretty kickass motorcycle which Ando appreciates far more than the suit.  In the HUGE plot point of the series, I’m sure, Hiro injects Ando with a GPS chip and reveals that he injected himself with one as well so they can track one another on a computer.  Convenient, too convenient but I won’t whine too much.  Ando rides off on his bike to meet some chicks while Hiro gets kidnapped by the ninja men.  Ando heads back and logs into the computer, the password was someone very important to Hiro, which turned out to be Ando, which is pretty cute I admit.  Anyway, now we have a way to find Hiro!  Isn’t that great?  I kinda want him to be left wherever he lands, but since he’s with the other Heroes I guess I can’t have that.

Isn't that a hot suit? Poor Ando.

Isn't that a hot suit? Poor Ando.

Matt & Daphne appear to be living together in Matt’s NY apartment.  Daphne breezes into the apartment using her super speed and Matt is none too happy about it.  She promised not to use her speed but she doesn’t see the point.   Matt is working as a security guard and not using his power to advance in the world.  This annoys Daphne who wants him to start his own company with stolen money she can get for him.  Daphne promises to act normal and takes off, meanwhile Matt sees the future-teller guy that Papa P beheaded last season.  He tells Matt that he can see the future now, I guess he inherited it.  Matt scoffs at this, he can’t draw at all, but then his eyes turns white and he Issac’s some drawings up.  One of them is of him being shot with something and another looked like Daphne and Ando looking at a computer.  I guess they’re Team Rescue!  Claire shows up to warn him and of course, the future he drew starts playing out, shot with a dart and caught, along with Claire.

Wicked cool pic of Matt with the Issac eyes!

Wicked cool pic of Matt with the Issac eyes!

Mohinder gets taken to some parking garage and the ninjas are there to take him, but he whips the door off his taxi and smacks team leader with it and runs.  A speeding van pulls up and there is HRG, telling him to get in and he’ll save him.  Mohinder being his usual self hops in and HRG delivers him back to the ninjas.  He’s playing for Team Nathan now.  Isn’t that sweet?  Claire’s two daddies are working together!  I hope that HRG is just doing it to keep Claire safe, both he and Nathan seem to be united in her not being taken in with the rest of them.

HRG captures dim, trusting Mohinder.

HRG captures dim, trusting Mohinder.

Peter meets with Nathan and confronts him on his plan to round them all up.  Pete points out that he’s turning his back on his own kind.  Apparently they haven’t talked to each other in the past two months and Peter’s a little bothered by his disownment.  Nathan wants to meet with him and work together at dinner; Peter starts to tell him to kiss ass but ends up agreeing to it.  Because as usual, Peter is pretty but so very very dim.  Nathan offhandedly asks what abilities Peter has and Peter asks what the last thing he saw him do was.  So the assumption there is that Peter still only has the flying ability and he actually let his brother know that, which was dumb.   Peter goes home and there’s Nathan in his place.  Sigh.  Nathan apologizes about his behavior and asks for a hug.  The broyay surfaces and the Petrelli brothers embrace.  Peter pulls back only to be zapped by HRG.  Nathan catches Peter and apologizes, requesting that HRG not hurt his brother.

The broyay betrayed.

The broyay betrayed.

Our only smart person with powers, Sylar, is on a quest to find his daddy this episode.  He goes to the watch shop and meets up with Mr. Gray, his supposed father and confronts him about that.  Apparently he was actually his uncle, his brother gave him to them to raise.  His wife was whiny and annoying so he gave Sylar to her and took off 27 years ago.  He hooks Sylar up with his brother’s address and Sylar leaves, leaving his uncle alive.  This shocked me, but of course I guess it was necessary to set the trap for Sylar.  He shows up at his real dad’s place, he’s a taxidermist.  Yum.  Sylar wanders passed zillions of stuffed animals looking for Daddy but instead he finds Team Nathan again.  Being Sylar, instead of being caught, he promptly uses his myriad powers to get out of trouble.  He’s zapped with 3 of those darts that brought down Pete and uses his telekinesis to whip them out and to send guys flying throughout the room.  He zaps a couple with Elle’s electricity and then lifts one in the air and starts demanding answers as he begins cutting his head open.  This gets the guy to admit he’s Agent Simmons with Homeland Security.  Sylar asks who sent him and he doesn’t answer so Sylar says, “Fine, I like a challenge” and screams begin.  Love!  Loved it, loved it, loved it!  I was so worried they were going to let him get caught easily and that would have made me quit the show.  I know some people thought the show was too Sylar heavy this year but since he’s become my favorite, because he’s actually intelligent unlike most of them, I just don’t mind.  Bring on the Sylar!

It's criminal to hide pretty Peter & Mohinder this way.

It's criminal to hide pretty Peter & Mohinder this way.

We end with the Heroes being brought in their jail jumpsuits with black bags on their heads and sent on a plane to some undisclosed location.  Tommy Lee Jones, the name I am giving to the head agent guy not named HRG, comes in and tells Nathan they have a problem and gives him Claire.  Nathan takes her to a limo to have her sent home, but she bashes the limo driver and takes off after the plane.  She climbs in via the wheels and pulls the bag off the heads of the Heroes.  She pulls Peter’s bag off and yanks the IV out of his nose, which is apparently what is helping keep their powers at bay.  He realizes he’s sitting by Mohinder and grabs his hand, taking his super strength power.  Peter breaks out of the restraints and starts fighting the guards.  Claire goes in to the cockpit and runs into HRG, stunning both of them to silence.  Peter lands on Tracy and gets her icing power, tho he doesn’t know it and he puts his hand on the side of the plane.  Ice forms and the side cracks and a huge hole appears in the plane.  It starts going down and some guards and some unseen Hero are sucked out.  Mohinder catches hold of Peter before he can fly out the side of the plane.

Peter trying not to fly the wrong way, out of the plane.

Peter trying not to fly the wrong way, out of the plane.

And there we have the fugitives volume in a nutshell.  A very long nutshell I know but quite a lot happened.  I’m super psyched to see the Heroes team up to elude capture.   I’m looking forward to seeing Claire and HRG have a few words about what he’s doing and why.  I’m sure it’s to protect her but I don’t think she’s going to care for that overly much.  Sylar will obviously remain a huge target for the rest of the season, so I look forward to that playing out some more.  And I want him and Peter to hold hands and that awesome power to be shared by both men.  I love powerful Peter, what can I say?  Claire is finally being useful and less annoying, which is guaranteed to improve the show by about 75% alone.   I’m already dying for next week, so that’s another sign that things are going right, at least in my eyes.  I may not be the best judge because I actually didn’t mind the first part of this season either, but this seems even better and I’m already more emotionally invested.  Here’s hoping next week is just as good as this one!
