Dean & Sam, united for now

Dean & Sam, united for now

They’re baaaaaaaack!  Is it just me or did Jensen and Jared get hotter over the month plus hiatus?  Perhaps it was just that I missed them so that they were even more beautiful than ever.  Jared looked larger to me for some reason, I think he’s been hitting the gym.  Anyway, I’m glad they’re back and this was a pretty good bridge episode for what’s coming.

Our boys get a call from “Bobby” telling them about this town where nobody is dying despite cancer, plug pulling and shots directly to the heart.  They determine that their presence is probably required and Sam tries to get Dean to get up and go.  Dean hesitates, initially I thought it was because Sam was the one doing the leading and Dean didn’t know how to respond to that.  But then Dean said, “Are you sure I won’t hold you back?  Maybe you should go alone” harkening back to that last episode (ages ago) wherein possessed Sammy told Dean those exact words.  Sam gets a bit irritated and said he’s apologized for that a thousand times and that’s not what he really thinks.  (But really it kind of is what he thinks).  That seemingly appeases Dean enough to get him to go but the tension is very much there between them.  Steps toward the showdown!  I am beside myself with excitement!

Dean knows his brother is a lying liar who lies!

Our boys hit the town and discover that the last person to die was a kid named Cole.  They attempt to invoke his spirit in the cemetery but are interrupted by the reappearance of still annoying voiced Alastair, who knocks Dean out and attempts to take on Sam.  Last time he kicked Sam’s ass but this time around he can’t budge him.  Sam brags about being stronger than he’ll ever know and Alastair bails before Sam can work the mojo on him.  Dean wakes up in the hotel complaining about a concussion and asks Sam how he got away from Alastair.  Sam tells him that Alastair couldn’t work the whammy on him (true) and he doesn’t know why (lying liar who lies!!!).  Dean actually calls him on lying to him and tells him he can have his secrets but don’t treat him like he’s stupid.  (Damn right Sammy).

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

They call Pamela in to assist them in tracking down their ghost; Dean comes up with the idea that they can send their souls out to find the kid.  She’s none too pleased by this development but goes along with it and it works.  There’s a cute scene wherein she tells Sam that he has a great ass while Sam’s spirit grins.

Hottest ghosts ever.

Hottest ghosts ever.

The boys track Cole down at his house and he tells them about the Reaper who came to take him away but disappeared in a ton of black smoke (the Lost monster moonlights on Supernatural!).  Before they can pry the location of this happening from Cole, another Reaper appears so Cole hides.  Turns out that Reaper is Tessa, who tried to collect our Dean in Season 2 before Daddy made his deal with Old Yellow Eyes.  She kissed him, bitch, and then he remembered her.  Sam heads up to find Cole while Dean and Tessa chat about old times.  Dean tells her he lived with a hole inside for about a year after she didn’t reap him and he kinda wishes she had since he’s had to endure deaths of Daddy and Sam during that time and it would have been easier to leave.

Meanwhile, Sam is upstairs being a LYING LIAR WHO LIES TO A CHILD!  He tells Cole that if he tells them where the smoke is they’ll make sure Tessa never takes him away and he can stay with his family forever.  Oh Sammy, how very far you’ve fallen.  Old Sam would never have blatantly lied to a child that way.  For shame!  Anyway, he gets the info and takes Cole down to meet Tessa and tell them where the demons took the Reaper.  In pours black smoke and out goes Tessa, for the demons needed two Reapers, not just one.

We get a fun scene with Cole trying to teach Dean and Sam how to make stuff move with their ghost powers.  First he gets to kick their asses a little but the boys eventually catch on.  They learn how to vanish and reappear in nearby locations and Dean in particular seems to delight in playing with ghostly powers.

Why does Alastair have the same annoying voice in a new body? I don't approve.

Newly trained, Sam & Dean head to the funeral home that is marked with all these weird symbols.  They go and start kicking the butt of the demon that is guarding Tessa and the other Reaper, but then they are tricked and trapped in an iron chain by Alastair.  He enjoys shooting them both with rock salt and commenting on turning the tables on them.  He kills the first Reaper but before he can kill the second, Sam & Dean combine their new moving skills and cause the chandelier to fall, breaking the seal holding Tessa and she releases them.  They succeeded in saving one seal from being broken.

Meanwhile, back in the non-ghost world, Pamela is under attack by a demon who’s there to kill Sam & Dean for real.  She manages to pull Sam back but takes a knife to the gut before he wakes up and dispatches of the demon with his mind mojo.  Dean is left to wander the streets in Ghosttown on his own and Alastair appears to taunt him again but he disappears in a beam of white light.  Dean turns around and sees Castiel! who is not looking as pretty as he usually does to me.  I wonder why?  Dean bitches at Castiel for waiting so long to show up but Cass tells him he’s been there all along, he just was letting them take care of stuff.  And he pretended to be Bobby to get them to go to that town.  Dean asks him why he’d do that and Cass rightly points out that they mostly do the opposite of what he tells them so he figured he’d let Bobby be their guide.  Dean is not amused but Castiel is pleased that they saved the seal and captured Alastair.  He takes up and Tessa shows up to ask for help getting Cole.  Cole is rather irritated that Sam lied but Tessa makes him see that leaving is for the best.  She also lets Dean know that there are not good things ahead for him just cause the angels are on his side.  Interesting.

Pamela pulls Dean back before dying.  She also calls Sam on his mojo usage and points out that no matter what he’s telling himself, what he’s doing is very very wrong.  Oh yeah, the smack down is coming!  Scenes for next week show angels dying and  Alastair in custody and Dean having to torture him.  This should be mighty interesting!  I can’t wait…the tension between the brothers is slowly ramping up and the angels are back.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  Bring on the pretty war!
