Heroes Relationships Evolve

Does this look like the face of a serial killer? Don't you just wanna hug him?

Does this look like the face of a serial killer? Don't you just wanna hug him?

This episode was all about redefining relationships to me.  Claire to Sandra, Peter to Nathan and Sylar to his father.  All of these relationships changed, though in Sylar’s case it was more of a change from wanting to talk to daddy to wanting to kill him.  But that’s a change all the same!  We also may have gotten rid of Luke (bonus!) and Alex (ehh that’s too bad).  I was going to do a liked it/hated list this week but I think it would weigh heavily on the liked it side now that I think about what happened.  So instead I’ll just focus on the major happenings.

Matt taunts HRG & Denko as Peter copies their disks.

Peter & Matt decided they needed to save Daphne and with the help of the Rebel they found out where she was being held.  Matt fretted like a girl about being able to control everybody in the building so Peter helped himself to his power and they worked the mind mojo together.  I’m not ashamed to say that it was the cheesiest shit I’ve ever seen this show pull when they were both working the mind control and the camera would close in on their “I have to take a shit” faces.  Never again, Heroes, don’t ever do that again.  We know how mind control works.  Now it was cool watching them get the guards to pull their guns on HRG and co, trapping them all in the control room while they hacked the computer systems.  I’m more and more convinced that Rebel, who did all the computer work mainly, is Micah.  Of course how he’s getting his info I don’t know, but perhaps Angela is guiding that.  She seems very involved.  HRG told Denko to turn on the alarm system, which messed with the mind control ability.  Matt and Peter were cornered but Matt distracted them long enough to Peter to get away with the disk showing what was done to them.

Peter called and offered a trade; Matt & Daphne for the disk.  HRG agreed to it and Denko went along to not cooperate.  HRG sent Peter the message in his thoughts that it was a trap and Peter was shot, but not fatally.  He fell over the building and Nathan flew him to safety.  Nathan’s regret over his actions falls a little flat because his actions never made any sense in the first place.  He tries to convince Peter to go along with him and Peter lets him think that he agrees, gives him a hug, takes his power and flies off, sending the disk to the local news.  This was our relationship shift number one, for once Peter did not listen to his damn brother and he is going his own way.  This is an important step for him and has to be part of his becoming future badass Peter.  During all this, Angela sat there being mysterious.  Nathan asked if she was Rebel and she denied it, but of course Angela lies.  Where’s Sylar when I need him? I demand an Angela episode stat, I want to know what she’s up to!

Claire's mom finally shows she's Mrs. HRG.

Relationship shift #2 came between Claire and Sandra.  Sandra caught Alex in Claire’s room and Claire’s sex explanation was quickly cut short by Alex’s total panic (this was hilarious) so Claire told her the truth.  Alex had powers and she had to help him.  Sandra wasn’t pleased but she went into real wife of HRG mode.  She helped hide him, made him a fake ID and distracted the feds while Claire got Alex to safety.  They shared an underwater kiss during the escape and Alex headed off to parts unknown, just like all of Claire’s would be boyfriends seem to do.  Claire returned home and bonded more with her mother, who she now knew could be trusted and could handle the insanity that comes with having an immortal kid.  She went downstairs to get the popcorn and who should she encounter but the Puppetmaster, who was told to get Claire’s help by The Rebel.  So, I’ve figured it out, Claire is officially the Underground Railroad.  All Heroes and Villains will have to come to her for safekeeping.  Quite weird, but I’m thrilled the creepy Puppetmaster is still alive.  He’s a freak but he has a cool power.

Like father, like son; little Sylar saw Daddy killing Mommy.

And the final relationship shift was the one have yet to see.  Sylar stopped outside an old diner and remembered that his father brought him there when he was a kid.  He’d dropped a car down the booth and he used his telekinesis to rip it apart and there his little car was.  His father got a wad of money and took him over to his new mom and dad, snowglobe lady and his uncle apparently.  Little Sylar (who was utterly adorable) ran after his dad and saw him and presumably his mother in the car arguing.  Daddy then sliced her head open in true Gray style and pushed her out of the car.  Sylar got that look on his face and he shifted course on just what he wanted from his father.  Not answers, not a relationship, he wants to kill him.  I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see this father vs. son showdown.  They clearly have the murderous gene sharing, so watching the go head to head should be beautiful.

By the way, Heroes showed me that I am now officially old as hell.  Sandra was telling Claire she learned how to make a fake ID so she could see her favorite band, Def Leppard.  Um…that was my favorite band.  I could be Claire’s adoptive mother. I was a Joe Elliott girl, not Rick Savage like Sandra but sheesh.  How frightening.  How depressing.  I’m only 34 but damn that one hurt.  Way to twist the knife, Heroes.

The other interesting happening was that Hunter decided to make Matt’s vision come true and he left him in DC with dynamite strapped to him.  That was a hell of a twist that I didn’t see coming.  He gave him a shot so that he’s completely out if it and wandering around with explosives strapped to his chest.  Next week cannot get here fast enough to see that resolution.  Yes, that’s right, I’m actually excited about some storylines!  I think we do have an improvement this volume, at least for me.  I can’t wait to see Sylar/Solomon and Matt/dynamite.  Back next week, hopefully with some kickass action to rhapsodize over!
