Embracing the hotness!
So I have been able to watch True Blood thanks to the awesomeness that is the beloved internet and I’ve seen all 3 episodes that have aired. And I’m not sure how I feel about it this time out. I’m happy about some things (Eric’s hair!!!!) but not happy about others (Jason’s being in this church thing is severely limiting his naked time. Limiting Jason’s naked time is never a wise move). So I thought I’d do a post discussing what I’m liking and what I’m not.
I’ll be honest, I got pissed at the last episode. I mean really pissed. Bill wouldn’t let Eric give Sookie blood after the attack. This is COMPLETELY opposite of what happens in the books and I’m going to be pissed if Eric and Sookie do not form their blood bond. I know, there are many opportunities ahead for him to give her blood but that just irritated the hell out of me. Thankfully the hotness that is Eric and his increased air time kept me from being overwrought by my rage, but still, wasn’t happy.

My other fave, I hope he's back to normal soon.
As you know, I am quite thrilled that Lafayette is still alive. I am a bit worried with his reaction when he got home yesterday, it was understandable but I hope that his light is not extinguished. He was definitely my favorite character next year and I need to see him being flirty and over the top or I will be sad.

More...always more shirtless Jason. Or naked Jason. Sexy Jason, not church Jason!
Jason in the church…I get it, I really do. It was a way to tie a main character into the church to bring it into the season, but really, I said it before, we need nakedness. I do appreciate the gratuitous shirtless scenes of course but Jason without sex just doesn’t feel like Jason. I was momentarily frightened that they were going to have him hook up with Molly Burnett of Days of Our Lives fame but other than a few sexy looks, that didn’t come to pass. I do get the vibe that maybe he and Mrs. Preacher are going to get it on eventually, but we’ll see. I’d rather have my favorite manwhore back though.

She's growing on me...but she's still annoying much of the time.
Jessica has completely grown on me to the point that I get mad when she’s brought down by Bill and Sookie. I was cheering her Hoyt hook up and mad that Bill broke that up before she could get some action. I’m glad she didn’t kill Hoyt though, I admit I was worried about that somewhat. The whining of the character can be a bit annoying but I prefer her to a lot of the characters right now.

Who doesn't want to start their day with some fresh Eggs? HEHE
Speaking of characters I DO NOT prefer, what the hell is this Mary Ann stuff? I’m not remotely interested in her power of chaos or whatever it is. I don’t care about her at all. I don’t like how Sam’s pretty much a sideline in the story and I hope they get her gone soon. Doesn’t help that she brings out the worst in Tara, who I loved at one time. Bonus points for bringing the hot Eggs into our world though.
I still find Bill bland and boring. He’s like a dad raining on everyone’s parade when it comes to both Sookie and Jessica. I truly hope the next season happens as it does in the books, I could use a Bill break already.

Yes, I wanted to include another picture of him. Problem with that?
Finally, we must talk about the perfection that is Eric. I was not a fan of that hair and was surprised to find the actor so much hotter than the character. It seems the producers listened to something and they let Eric get a hair cut. Sooooo much better. So lovely! So sexy. And they’re doing a GREAT job of showing some Eric’s darker side and some of his fun side as well. I want more of the fun in his interaction with Sookie, hopefully that will come soon. Oh, and I want him dressing a little better, but that’s my sole Eric complaint now. Bring out the hotness even more peeps.
So that’s about it for where I am when it comes to True Blood. I don’t overly care for the storylines right now but maybe things will ramp up in Dallas and I’ll get more into it.
i miss sexy jason to, but i think it wont be to long now till we have him back..
him and the preachers wife.. who knows.. i can never guess witht his show.. i mean a bull man? come on! haha oh well cant wait for the next episode!
Hi Tracy! Yes, I’m hope that Jason’s stance and commitment to the church is softening. It was nice to see him express some doubts, though I think Preacher man pulled him back in. Sweet gullible Jason. So susceptible! I have no idea if they’ll go there with the wife but there seemed to be a couple of moments and the Preacher got overtly sexual with her in front of Jason which I found surprising. Since they’ve completely changed that story from the books I have no idea where it will go.
Ha, the bull man…I meant to comment on the scar on the new waitresses back and whether that means anything or if she was attacked to. I assume that Mary Ann is behind all of it but I don’t care enough about her to speculate. Sigh. Just give me the pretty boys and leave the chicks out of it!
Hehe, to the previous comment.
A problem? With a picture of Eric aka Alexander Skarsgård? Not at all. It’s perfectly understandable why Bill would be gay for him as the sales lady thought. Eric grinned and poor Bill didn’t have a clue. Hee!
As to the blood thing. In the books the vamps blood didn’t work before nor after the healing. The poison was so strong that even vamps had difficulties digesting it and that meant that it took three vamps to drink Sookie’s blood. Eric, Bill and Pam, if I remember the names correctly. So Eric got her first taste of Sookie there but Sookie didn’t get a drop of Eric’s blood in her until later, in Dallas when she sucked the bullet from Eric’s shoulder after he had used his body to protect her… (while Bill was consumed by revenge and considered it more important to hunt down humans shooting them than to check on his girlfriends well-being especially when said girlfriend saved the vamps by warning them… rant over). But you see that I understand your point of view, don’t you?
So in the books, three vamps drank Sookie nearly dry and her blood was replaced with real and synthetic human blood, not vamp blood. I wouldn’t have minded Bill trying to stop Eric drinking from Sookie if they would have managed to keep that straight. But I guess they were thinking about scars and it was way more important than keeping the effects of the poison real to the books.
I’m not paying too much attention to anything Jason does this season nor did last season if I’m perfectly honest. Apparently Mrs Preacher isn’t the only one eyeing Jason though. I can’t help it, I stumbled on some spoilers or girls speaking of spoilers.
And I like Maryann and the actress but I don’t like or care about Tara and I’m somewhat upset with what they’ve done with Sam so far. This was supposed to be his big story.
Jessica and Hoyt have potential and I’m actually looking forward what ever happens there as long as neither is killed. And the more it, they together, irritate Bill the better.
The further the show gets the more I hate Bill. I have nothing against the actor but even the best writing for his character isn’t going to save what I lost while reading the books. Even his “best” behaviour only speaks against him when I remember what he never voluntarily told Sookie. Both the book and the tv Sookie need to realise just how loyal Bill is to other vampires and their ‘code’ of keeping people out with lies where as a certain other vampire may not say everything but what he says is true…
What else? I’m happy that Lafayette lives too. He at least understands how lucky he was while Sookie thinks what he suffered was horrible. The experience vs. the naivety. Unfortunately we can’t have both.
Ha, I meant to mention that scene in the store with Eric and Bill. He was so damn clueless and there was Eric smirking away. So damn hot. I’m thrilled that Eric is appearing more and more, at least they’re getting that right. I know, that follows with the books as well but I’ll be interested to see if they actually do send Bill away in the 3rd and 4th season. I hope so. Like you, he does nothing for me and I know my book opinion colors my view of the TV version.
Okay, so I got the blood thing wrong, but still, they had Bill do it instead of Eric which I found annoying. You’re right though, that’s when Eric gets his first taste of her which I think is quite important. Oh well…I will wait til Dallas before I blow a gasket. And yes, I remember well that Bill leaves her behind while going after the attackers. Jerk.
I like Jason, I can’t help it. I like TV Jason much better than book Jason, plus he’s super cute. And has a hot body. So I don’t mind his increased air time, I just wish it wasn’t church related. Glad to hear I have stuff to look forward to though.
Sam’s being totally left out isn’t he? I’m not sure what this new waitress’ deal is but I truly can’t stir myself to care. Poor Sam.
Jessica is really becoming a big part of the show and I’m liking that, she has a lot more spirit than most of the characters. We’ll see what this next episode holds, I’m hoping it gets more captivating though, I’m not as in to it as I was last season, minus the Eric thing (which I admit is going to be enough to keep me watching til the end, I’m so shallow!)
I don’t mind AB changing things and adding anything that further explores the darker side of the vampire under culture (since they’ve not revealed everything after the big revelation), but I do mind them changing the essential things that I loved about the books. Not too much but a little, more now that I’ve read the books. I understand some took it quite bad when Bill staked Longshadow instead of Eric and since it’s still being brought up in the books, I sympathise.
What I was about to say before getting sidetracked was, that I like Jessica because through her we get to what it’s like for newborn vampires in the world Harris created. In fact anything that adds to that culture is welcomed by me. Harris certainly is avoiding the subject or so it seems, after nine books and knowing as much as we the readers do about the vamps in her world.
You’re not that shallow or the only one who is going to keep watching till the end if only because of Eric.
I have to agree with you there, she really didn’t explore vampire culture that well and I do appreciate a look at a “newborn”. I was rather amazed that Jessica seemed to genuinely like Hoyt and that she hadn’t bit him at all when Bill interrupted (Buzzkill, always). I thought maybe she’d at least draw some blood but she didn’t. So that impressed me. I definitely enjoy seeing the vampire world get explored more so than in the books.
I didn’t care for Bill staking Longshadow either but I liked that we got to see Danko order Bill to make Jessica. I’d rather watch Bill get bossed around than Eric so I didn’t take it as badly as I will if the blood bond doesn’t form between Sookie and Eric. Some things just need to be kept.
I think a large portion of the problem with Sookie, Bill and Eric is AB obvious love for Bill. And the fact that he has this “real life couple” he can capitalize on. I can only assume that is why the supposed public LOVES them together so much. Because seriously? I thought it was so obvious a blind person could see how boring and bland Bill is (and I don’t think that’s just the books coloring my view).
I was looking forward to Bill, Pam, Eric, and Chow sucking the poison from Sookie, and right before she passes out Eric winks at her. Would have been a great moment. And I assumed that the “Bull man” thing was Maryanne, because if she’s not the Maenad what the heck is she and what is she doing?
The stuff with Jason, I agree with Rameau, I could take it or leave it. I really liked Jason in the books, as a more minor character, who looks out for his sister, but can’t help his selfish nature.
The stuff with Sam… I LOVE the actor they got to play Sam, he’s GREAT, and very much how I picture Sam (minus the red hair). But it seems like they make Sam less likeable in the show. The thing about Sam is that he is the one constant, reliable being that ALWAYS has Sookie’s best interest at heart. He’s the only one who loves her unconditionally (though he’s not nearly as much fun as Eric).
I’m glad to seemingly be past all the drug trade stuff from last season. And I’m seriously hoping to be done with Tara’s mom soon. That story line is nothing but a distraction in my opinion.
And why did they make “Godric” the sheriff of the Dallas area… What about “Stan Davis”? I guess that was to simplify things? I wonder if that will make more things change later…
Looking forward to seeing who they get to play “Barry the Bellboy” in Dallas!
Yeah I’m pretty sure the Bull Man is Maryanne as well. I just have no interest in it. Or why the waitress also sports the scar…I haven’t watched last night’s epi yet, so maybe more has been answered.
I agree that Sam has been done great disservice in the series. The actor is fine but he really feels like he doesn’t fit in anywhere. The writing is doing him no favors and they’ve barely had him around Sookie, let alone pining over her. Having him do her best friend also muddies those waters too, it doesn’t feel like there’s any potential there if Sookie does turn away from Bill. Bad choice by the writers.
Not that that surprises me. Like you, I don’t get the Bill thing and all and I fear that AB’s love for Bill is going to cause him to go the wrong way with the coupling. Who cares if they’re together in real life? Bill sucks and Eric rocks. Embrace it and move on.
I guess they didn’t want to cast Stan? I don’t know why they made Godric the sheriff, seems stupid to me but oh well. I’m looking forward to Barry as well!
True Blood was not on last night, so you have not missed anything yet.
It almost seems like AB has not read past the second book, he talks about Bill and Sookie like they are Bella and Edward. There are seven books in which Bill and Sookie are NOT together. Eric is by far the front runner in the books. Sure, some people are holding out hope for Sam, but over all Eric is the one people are rooting for. No one roots for Bill.
Sigh…I hope he gets to reading and that he doesn’t deviate too far. I don’t trust him though. He darn well better show Bill to be the asshole that we know he is or I will be mad.
I just read that the character of Eric in Charlaine Harris’s books was based on this guy: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0474520/
I also read the character of Quinn was based on Vin Diesel.
Um…hehe Alexander is much better!
