A Blog About Everything; Sports, Soaps, Movies and Books

I’m back from my Thanksgiving holiday and still without my laptop cord.  Hopefully that’ll be here on Tuesday and I can get back to my regular blogging schedule.  I hate using my desktop for the blog, don’t ask me why, no real reason, I just do.  So, anyway, lots of stuff on my mind and instead of doing about 5 or 6 little blogs, we’ll do one big one that encapsulates everything this time out.

Days of Our Lives

Last week on Days was filled with heartbreak and two of the best performances on this show in ages.  I attribute this to the actors themselves rather than the writing, which is still this side of atrocious.  Ari Zuker (Nicole) and Blake Berris (Nick) hit every emotional beat in some very hard scenes.  Nicole lost her baby and you actually felt like she really lost her child.  Her pain and overwhelming sadness was actually tangible to the viewer.

Blake Berris also had some stuff to do in the last couple of weeks, showing Nick’s descent from sweetness into craziness.  He lied and convinced Melanie that she killed her father, then she called him on it and the police closed in and he just became an utter shell of himself.  He appears to be a broken man and yet he’s still trying to look out for the girl he thinks he loves.  This viewer just wants to reach into the screen and give him a hug, he’s appearing so lost and alone.  Again, kudos.

I have to give him kudos now, because Days is stupidly letting go of one of their most talented young actors in January.  I hope he gets to leave as a recovered Nick with a bright future.  I have no faith in this, but it is my wish.  Meanwhile, Nicole, while awesome, will no doubt now result to baby lies and possible stealing, thus being ruined yet again.  She was the one character that Higley actually wrote decently but you can see the writing on the wall for her.  You know what I’d really like to see?  I would like to see the loss of the baby break her and drive her back to the bottle.  EJ could run across her drinking and tear into her, thinking she’s endangering their child.  She could either go two ways then, fake the loss after a drinking binge that she blames upon EJ for some reason or come clean about losing the kid and we see how EJ reacts.  I would far prefer either scenario to her ending up with Sami’s kid, which is clearly what is going to happen.  Higley claimed there would be twists and turns that we wouldn’t see coming, but if anybody is fooled they should be hired by the Days writing staff at this point.  A more heavy handed anvil I never did see.  Hate.

Twilight

A week and a half ago a friend of mine recommended that I read the Twilight series.  I had been mildly intrigued by the storyline so I figured why not?  I bought the first book on Saturday and read it in a day.  I bought the second and third books and read them on Sunday and Monday.  Over the holiday weekend I reread all 3 again and bits of them here and there as well.  I am officially obsessed with this story.  Edward and Bella feel like they’re a part of me, or I’m a part of them or some damn thing.   I am waiting for the 4th book, which I could not find at the stores, to be here on Wednesday and I’m feeling rather lost waiting for it.  I don’t know if it’s cause the books are written in the first person that you feel so involved, or if it’s how intriguing the idea of a vampire following in love with the one girl who he wants to bite more than anything or if it’s young obsessive love…I’m just hooked.

So I saw the movie on Saturday with my mom (which took some doing as mom is not the type to enjoy vampires at all, haha).  It was just okay.  I did like the actor they hired for Edward, which is a big deal because he really is the character that most grabs me.  The actress for Bella was just okay, she didn’t do a great job of showing just how deeply in love with Edward she is.  The movie kind of glazed over the obsession aspect which I thought was a miss.  I also didn’t care for them having James and Victoria and Laurent hunting in the town and starting off investigations.  I like Bella’s dad remaining ignorant of the world she’s immersing herself in.  I thought Dr. Cullen’s makeup was a bit too much, he stood out like a sore thumb, but the rest of the vamps were good.  Robert Pattinson brought an otherworldly charm to Edward though, and that was enough to keep me absorbed in the story.  We’ll see how they swing the next one when he’s off for over half the time though, I don’t think she can carry half the next movie on her own.  Of course, they may make it different like they did this one, then we’ll see.

In summation, I could not recommend the book series more, at least the first three.  I’ll let you know how I feel about number 4 this weekend I’m sure.  Any Twilight fans that happen across this, I’d love to chat with you more in depth about the books.  I have a few complaints but mostly I really want someone to share my new obsession with.  The movie is alright, if you like the books it’s worth a looksee.

Heroes

It was nice to see the Petrelli bros back to their bromance and bitching at one another again.  LOVED the Sylar/Elle kiss.  I still don’t know where they’re going with Elle, one minute she seems to be sweet and loving and the next she’s trying to reignite our favorite serial killer this side of Dexter, but that kiss was hot.  Sylar’s “I’ll do what I want” and then grabbing her and kissing her?  VERY HOT.  Not hot, HRG having a gun trained on them.  They need to live and have Selle sex followed by a Selle baby.  I will not be able to forgive the ever awesome HRG if he kills Elle.

Too bad Claire won’t really die.  Sigh.  Love the Daphne twist, her being unable to walk without braces without her power.  That’s cool.  I do not remotely like Hiro’s storyline, but Seth Green being there this week will still please me.  Seth Green is magic.

Have Gun, Will Shoot

So apparently Plaxico Burress of the NY Giants managed to shoot himself in the thigh this weekend at a club.  I know I don’t feel complete unless I’m packing when I hit the dance floor, so this is clearly an understandable offense.  A mistake.  An accident.  Mere semantics.  Or…maybe not.  Maybe it’s just another example of such utter stupidity and recklessness that far too many athletes embody these days.  What happened to the days of posses of 10 or 15 dudes?  Let them carry the weaponry while you have a good time.  What’s the point of having loads of money if you have to defend yourself?  You pay people and let them take care of your issues.  Morons.  Apparently Antonio Pearce took the gun and did something with it too, so he could be in trouble as well.  Plax didn’t bother to get a permit for the gun so he’s charged with felony gun possession.  I’m sure Antonio will get hit with an accessory charge.  I just…there’s really nothing to say about how fucking stupid some people are.  You have everything, why waste it?

I don’t see the Giants letting Plaxico come back to the team next year.  He’s had several disciplinary incidents this year and frankly, they play just fine without him.  Another case of a player thinking he’s the be all and end all of the world and hopefully finding out that is not the case.

College Football

Thanks for showing up yesterday, Noles.  Really, that was quite a show you put together against Florida.  Why is it, we have a much better team, yet we get thrashed by 30 this year?  We were at least with a TD or two the last two years.  Sigh.  Ponder is just not ready for a big game like that the defense seemed unable to tackle Tebow.  I stopped watching in the third quarter…if my team can’t make an effort out there, I’m sure as shit not going to give them my time.

Farewell Charlie Weis.  35-3 against USC with less than 100 yards total offense.  That’s lovely.  That’s the kind of thing you can put on a resume.  I loathe USC but I probably loathe ND more so it was kinda funny to me.

My opinion?  Texas beat Oklahoma, therefore they should be ranked ahead of them.  I hate that damn BCS though and hope that the bitching reaches all time high levels.  The BCS getting to decide the Big 12 championship is just friggin laughable.  Until there is a viable playoff I’m going to make up some random name for the champion.  The Computer Champion That Might Have Been The Real Champion, But Who Can Say???  That’ll be their title.  I loathe the BCS.

UF is going to annihilate Alabama this weekend.  Period.  Bama is nowhere near as good as the Gators.  Damned if I know who could beat them in the championship game, OK might stand a chance but I’m not too confident of that.  I loathe Florida, people, so you know I am loathe to admit it but they are damn good.  I’m still glad we hurt Harvin though.

Well I think that’s enough rambling for now, I’ll hopefully be up and running again on Tuesday so we’ll chat about Heroes sometime then.  Back at ya soon!

  1. *cries about Nick*

I’m still bitter I missed the Selle kiss!

That’s a good idea to have Nicole fall into alcoholism through the baby loss, since it’s been established she drinks so heavily. I know I’d rather see that then baby stealing.

    *crying on Nick*

  2. I know, I’m still very unhappy about Nick as well. I can only hope BB goes on to something awesome that Higley can’t ruin. Bitch.

Selle kiss! I’m sure you’ll see it tomorrow, as they were still kissing as the show ended, with HRG about to shoot. I will be very angry if he shoots!

Wouldn’t that be awesome? She could rock the alcoholism and she and EJ could really have a nasty argument and all the stuff could come out then. Anything is preferable to baby stealing.

  3. WHAT?????? You think Nicole is going to wind up with SAMI’S baby??? Who, I ask you, WHO could have foreseen this brilliance? WOW!

The previous comment was brought to you by the letter Sarcasm. Twists and turns, my ass.

Anyway, I hate the BCS too. But of course we can’t hamper our fine student-athletes with a playoff system that would take them away from their studies.

  4. Hee, only the truly brilliant can ferret out just what Higs is going to do. She’s very stealthy. I only figured it out because I got Tomlin’s number from that Theresa moron on NBC and called him up to offer MY writing services. Then he told me how brill her Babypalooza plan was and I knew that I could not hope to compete!

Hee, right…we can ask college basketball teams to participate in a month long tourney but we can’t ask the college teams do it! It’s too hard! They’re students!!!! That’s what they’re really there for. Puhlease!

  5. Did you also ask to talk to James Scott and did he assure you like he’s been telling all the EJami fans “off the record” that EJami is endgame and “inevitable?” I totally believe everything I read on the internets because I’m a moron!

  6. Of course. He told me they’re going to have a big soapy wedding and that Johnny and Allie (his child also) were going to be the flower girl and boy while new EJami baby would be held by proud grandpappy Stefano. Then Sami will get pregnant again with twins on their honeymoon and they’ll all live happily ever after in DiMansion. The whole town will be nothing but Brady and Dimera children and Steffy will have to get mail order brides and husbands for all the kids. Higley rocks! HEHE

    The internets are always true!

  7. That’s awesome that he told you all that! Now I know I can quit watching! Unless there’s the off, off chance you’re lying about the whole thing. But you wouldn’t lie on the world wide web, would you? I mean, nobody does that!

I’m so scared that we’re losing Tripp over the show’s inexplicable decision to make Nick’s “good stuff” being him turned into a killer and written off. How can we cheer her up? Can we take a cross-country trip to (1) see Marcus Patrick dancing and (2) picket Dena’s office? I totally want to do that! Well, the picketing at least. I mean, we’re all always one idiotic storyline/character assasination away from quitting–I’m still on pins and needles about the horrific Phelony, I might be right behind Tripp.

  8. Charlie Weis will kick your butt.

  9. Me? Lie! On the web??? Never! Well…I mean…I might say something that might be exaggerated a bit, but I can always go back and erase it so that nobody ever knew I said it. This is the beauty of this blog. HEHE Of course if I did it elsewhere I might be in trouble. I’ll laugh if my “spoiler” turns up on DR or something. Terry will probably run with it!

Yes, Tripp says that she’s done when Nick is. Sigh. And yeah, I am preparing for you to run screaming into the night if Philip gets with Melanie. Perhaps Higs will make EJ have a hot affair with Chelsea just to make me run also. May as well alienate all of us. We could all hit MP’s show and then go to Higley, may as well get ourselves all up in a frenzy! HAHA I think seeing MP might make Tripp remember there are worse things than turning sweet guys into serial killers. Stupid agent men. HEHE

  10. Hi yojoe! Um…Charlie can try to kick my butt…I think I might be able to outrun him though.

  11. I thought you could tolerate a hot affair with EJ and anyone but Marlena. I didn’t realize EJ/Chelsea was on your “I will QUIT before I watch that shit” list. I honestly am completely unclear on Higley’s “philosophy”; I mean, I understand that the philosophy is “alienate everyone,” but WHY???

  12. Hee, well now that Marlena is on her way out (the really only good thing going on Days wise now!) I don’t have to fear that anymore! Unless Higs throws in a quickie just to blind me before she goes. I wouldn’t put it past her. Anyway, that probably not being the case, I had to pick who I liked the least currently and Chelsea and her streaks are pretty much tops on my list. Thankfully Uncle Max will probably swoop in and keep me from that…but can you imagine how funny EJ and Chelsea would look together? He towers over her and even tho they had decent chem in that whore on the docks thing she tried, it would probably enrage me now.

It is hilarious that a few months ago I was pissed at Dena for catering to every single one of the fanbases and now it seems like she’s out to destroy them all. Do you think she reads us? It might explain why she made Nick psycho and has Philip dreaming about children and EJ neutered in babydaddy land. Perhaps we should start raving about Max and see if she’ll torpedo him too. I don’t get her. But I could see her saying I hate those bitches; Tripp, Paxton and Nole; so let’s ruin their favorite characters and prop the ones they hate. Calling Max, calling Daniel! It’s the only thing that makes sense. Did we all make fun of her on TWoP????

  13. “whore on the docks”–BWAH! Is RM even shorter than AS? JS would probably have to put his foot down, to try to avoid back problems.

I do think the three of us are on Dena’s list; it’s the only thing that explains . . . well, everything. And I think you know the answer to the question of whether we made fun of her on TWoP–YES! But she deserves it!

  14. I’m pretty sure she’s shorter than AS. At the very least she’s tiny in comparison to AS, not that AS is fat or anything, but RM is so thin and waiflike that I think they’d look ridiculous together. Maybe we’ll see them in a room at some point and can compare.

Hee, I know we’ve made fun of Dena on TWoP, I’m just wondering if we all made fun of something she posted under an alias. hehe Perhaps back in the Chan days…I could be pretty snotty to people then. But yeah, she could just be silently reading and deciding which of us she hates the most and then going after our faves. It really is the the thing that makes the most sense.

  15. Well, my mother has always said that people who don’t like me, really, really, REALLY don’t like me, so I guess she’s right. I just wish I hadn’t alienated the head writer for the only soap I watch and who has the power to make me hate Philip and EJ. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

  16. Ha, tell me about it! I never would think it possible that we could start disliking our faves but she is making it a definite maybe. Just wait til EJ finds out about the baby stuff…sigh. I shudder to think. She’s already making him look like a buffoon right now. Philip is dangling over a cliff of potential crap as well. I can only hope he uses his one good leg to boost himself up and then beats Higley to death with the fake one. Oooh wait, I forgot, he doesn’t have a fake leg anymore! If she didn’t write it, it didn’t happen. What a wonderful attitude to take into your job!

  17. [...] A week and a half ago a friend of mine recommended that I read the Twilight series. I had been mildly intrigued by the storyline so I figured why not? I bought the first book on Saturday and read it in a day. …[Continue Reading] [...]

  18. WHAT? Is Higley actually ignoring Philips fake leg? Wasn’t it earlier this year when we saw the actual fake leg? Sorry, I forgot there was a reason why I quit watching Days. I tried but I think I’m giving up on it again.

And I just want the eclipse to be over on Heroes. Selle kiss was hot but other than those two the episode was quite boring. Especially even the hint of Maya made me want to vomit. If HRG really shoots Elle, I want Sylar/Garbriel to find a new talent, one that allows him to share his abilities with another person. Then those two can be equal in every way.

As for Twilight. I think I’ll wait until you’ve read all of them to discuss about the subject with you. I really don’t want to spoil anything for you. And for the record, I had to wait for the third book for a week but once I got it, I read through the last two books in two days without sleeping. Obsessed I know.

  19. Hee, I don’t know that they’re actually pretending that the leg thing didn’t happen, but JKJ had an interview recently where he said he asked them if he should continue to limp in scenes and whatnot and they told him no. I really liked the way he made Philip move stiffly all the time, true to character. Since they had him climb up and save Melanie the other day, I’m thinking they’re pretending it never happened. I could be wrong though!

I agree, I am not a fan of powerless heroes at all. I’m still not over Peter not having his, and he’s been without them the longest. Uncool. I’d love Sylar to save Elle, that would be made of awesome. I’m hoping/guessing that HRG will get a call about Claire and take off before shooting, but with him you never know!

I am so glad I’m not the only one obsessed. It makes me feel a lot better to know it. I’ve read each book in a day and over Thanksgiving I probably reread them all twice. It was insane. I am pretty sure I’m dreaming about the characters…argh! Wednesday it should be here, according to Amazon. I want to hold out to the weekend to start reading it but I know damn well I won’t. I loved the third book, I think it’s my fave so far, though Twilight is right up there with it. New Moon lags behind just because it’s Edwardless for so long. hehe I don’t like being without him anymore than Bella does!

I’ll be sure to let you know when I have it done (so you know, probably Thursday, haha) and we can talk about likes and dislikes. Right now my main bitch is her reaction to getting married to him. If you want to spend eternity with a guy, what’s the big deal in tying the knot first? I know her reasons, I just find them rather invalid. Perhaps if her parents seemed to hate each other and her mom had been married 5 times or something I would get it more. Small one, all things considered, but still irritating! Is it Wednesday yet? Maybe it’ll come early. HEHE

  20. [...] A week and a half ago a friend of mine recommended that I read the Twilight series. I had been mildly intrigued by the storyline so I figured why not? I bought the first book on Saturday and read it in a day. …[Continue Reading] [...]

  21. The limp actually bothered me more than it’s absence ever could. These days the prostheses are so good that you can dance with them and probably run faster than you ever could with your own two, biological feet. And didn’t the previous actor playing Philip (can’t remember his name Kyle something right?) had a storyline of learning to walk again and after he did, he didn’t limp anymore. So in my opinion, JKJs choice (or the decision made by higher ups) to have Philip limp was poor one and another example of discarding the history. But, after saying that, I think it’s ridiculous to have him climb up a side of a building (or what ever happened) is almost as ridiculous as is having the wealthy Kiriakis having the most obsolete model of prosthetic legs available.

Even though I understand Bella’s fear of marriage which isn’t the same as fear of commitment, better than you (just because I feel pretty much the same way though my family history is a bit different than hers) I agree that for her it’s just a little bit ridiculous. Wanting to spent an eternity with a vampire but not wanting to get married? I wouldn’t mind spending few years with Edward but I’m too attached to my mortality to give up being human, even for him. So, for me it makes more sense to abhor marriage than it does for Bella.

I’m teetering on the edge trying not to give out any spoilers, but even after reading Breaking Dawn, I think I liked New Moon the best. In fact I liked Jacob just a little bit better than I did Edward (but that’s simply because perfection scares me) and I adore angst. So though Edward wasn’t, or perhaps because, in the book that much I adored and devoured all the loneliness, longing, near misses and misunderstandings, the fear of having lost the one she/he loves forever and the utter desolation almost leading to suicide and enjoyed it all. Just because I’m twisted like that.

And you never know if it’ll come early. For example, when I ordered my laptop last spring it was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday but since I tracked it on the internet I found that it was in my city on Monday. So I made a call to the delivering company and they brought it to me two days earlier than it was promised.

  22. Oh I agree, with a good prosthesis he never should have had to limp in the first place, but it was a good reminder for the audience that he had lost a leg. Hell they had Melanie tear into him a week or so ago about how he’d never lost anything and I was just dying for him to throw the leg and Claire and Belle in her face, but of course that is ancient history so why would we discuss it? Ugh.

Hee, I don’t mind if you give out spoilers, I’ve done enough reading up to know some of the things heading my way when I finally get the book. What I do know confuses me, so hopefully actually reading it will clear a few things up. I’m an Edward girl though, so if she ends up with Jacob I’m going to be a bit irritated. I like him, but I don’t like how he constantly tries to manipulate her and trick her. Yeah he wants her to see that she loves him, but if she can’t come to that on her own then let it be. Just my opinion! I will say that New Moon hit the longing and the utter desperation she felt. Having seen the first movie, I don’t know if that actress is going to be able to remotely make me feel that on screen, though in movie form it might be different anyway. I did enjoy that one as well and it’s the only one of the 3 that made me cry my eyes out. Her putting blank pages with the months going by was a great touch.

Did you read the unprinted manuscript? She has it on her website, I guess someone leaked it on the net and she was mad and put it up there for anyone to read. It’s basically halfway done and it’s Eclipse rewritten from Edward’s viewpoint instead of Bella’s. It fascinated me and I again stayed up entirely too late reading it all. And how brilliant is that by the way? She could rewrite all 4 books from his viewpoint and make a killing all over again, if she does end their story after the 4th.

  23. I haven’t read the unfinished manuscript but I’ve read the first chapter of Twilight she wrote from Edwards point of view (I don’t think it’s the same thing since I’ve only read the first chapter). That’s the problem with writing in the first person. On the other hand you get a clear image of what’s going on in the head of one character and you learn to know her or him completely but at the same time it shuts out everything else. You’ll always be wondering what’s going on in the others heads and in my opinion, we get too much of that in real life. But I agree, I would pay again for all four books if they were written from Edwards viewpoint.

As for the movie, I don’t think I’ll be seeing that any time soon. I’ve heard nothing but good about Robert Pattinson as Edward but from the pictures I saw, I wasn’t at all convinced by the actress who plays Bella. If she’s as numb and unfeeling as you described, I hope that they’ll either make her take a lot of acting lessons or emphasize Edwards presence even though he wasn’t really there. Actually, they should do both.

I don’t want to taint your opinion of the final book with my mindset especially if we’re going to discuss these books more in depth. I’ll say this, in my opinion, the author left the door open that should she ever change her mind, she could return to the world of Twilight with new stories. And that I wonder hadn’t this series been the first she published, would she have written the ending she wrote for it.

  24. Hmmm I will know soon enough. It came today!!! :) I’ll be gone to the real world for a day or two, but I shall let you know when it’s done!

Robert Pattinson did a very good job as Edward. My mother, who has not read the books, said that he really did bring a charm to the role. She liked him. She thought Bella was too plain for him, but I tried to explain that that was kinda how it was supposed to be, she always felt like he was too beautiful for her. But yeah, the actress is challenged and she’ll have to do a much better job to bring what belongs in New Moon. She never convinced me of Bella’s NEED for Edward.

Yes, you probably just saw the first chapter. She’s got 264 pages up and it stops just before they head to the meadow I believe. I’ll end up rereading that at some point, I started it at 10:30 PM on Tuesday night and finished it at 1:30 AM with heavy eyes. I shouldn’t do that to myself but I can’t stop…well you know what I’m saying!

I will definitely let you know when I’m done and we’ll delve more in depth!

  25. Ok, so I’m the only one who hasn’t even got the slightest interest in Twilight? I think I must be.

Nole, I agree with you that JKJ limps not because a character in his situation actually would, but as a reminder to the audience. It’s the same reason Bo and Roman always call each other “brother.” We KNOW they’re brothers but sometimes you do have new viewers who don’t know the history. Well, maybe not so much now. I would say the days of soaps picking up new viewers are over.

  26. Days: It’s a sad day when I find black turtleneck clad “Russian” kidnappers more fascinating than anything on Days of Our Lives.

Twilight: I feel like this must be some sort of record that Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli have managed to find work at the same time.

My Alma Mater: It was so bad, I briefly wished I was Percy Harven just so I would be escorted off the field so I wouldn’t have to watch that mess.

  27. Paxton, I held out for as long as I possibly could but the story intrigued me, then the characters did. I can understand it’s not for everyone, but it captured me the way that very few books have, and I am an avid reader!

Hee, it is hilarious that Bo and Roman call each other brother all the time, but I understand the need to reinforce it, especially for people who only watched during the real Roman days. I hate fake Roman. But yeah, the limp was just a nice reminder, cause I know I repress much of the four stooges stumbling around Iraq or wherever they were supposed to be.

Brandi, you are right, Days is a special brand of boring right now. Now that Nicole is without the baby and Nick is soon to be gone, and we know what Nicole will likely do, I have no use for much of anything going on there.

I normally get ya, but what is the Jennie Garth/Peter Facinelli issue with Twilight? It’s late and I devoured the 4th book (longest yet at 750 pages or so) today so I might not be at my sharpest!

There is nothing to say about the Noles pathetic performance. It was like we took about 5 steps back after that great game against MD. I’m glad we’re not in the ACC game, we are not deserving!

  28. Paxton, you know that there are certain books you just have to read don’t you? It’s part general cultural knowledge. That’s how it started for me and that’s why I read Twilight, but by the end of it I was craving for more. I fell in love with the characters and as usual Bella wasn’t even my favourite. I just had to find out what would happen to the others.

Nole, did you had the same slightly disturbing reaction that I did when I read the name Bella was going to give to her son? Why would Bella name her son after a ten-year-old racer called Elvis John Wells DiMera? For my defence I have to say that I read the book this summer and at the time I still liked the fore-mentioned character of that other show you like to blog about.

  29. BWAH…I did do a double take when I saw EJ but I immediately thought it was for Edward Jr. Didn’t even realize she meant for Jacob to be the middle name, though of course I should have. I can only blame the fact that I read the damn book all the way through yesterday. I like EJ better than Renesmee anyday though. HEHE

So I can’t figure out just how I feel about book #4. I like that Edward and Bella ended up happy, but it felt like everything was too neat. All conflicts were completely resolved. Have a kid, check. Keep best friend, check. Best friend loves kid, check. Won’t kill a human, check. Let Dad sorta know, check. I’m all for happy endings but it seemed there should have been more conflict. I was 100% sure that Bella and Rosalie would go head to head about the raising of the baby and that Rose might even run off with her. Didn’t happen. Jacob imprinting on Renesmee and thus all conflict he had with Bella and Edward is gone. War with the Vultari fizzled and died. It was all too neat…I think. I’m still formulating my thoughts though.

    What did you think?

  30. I agree. It was all too neat. I don’t usually like overly happy endings and this was one of those. I admire the author for actually writing it so and doing it quite believably but it was all too neat as you said. I didn’t like the girls name either but I liked the reaction Bella had for Jacob calling her Nessie after the Loch Ness monster. A sore subject for a new vampire a monster of sorts.

Jacob imprinting was the thing I hated most. I was actually hoping that he and Leah might grudgingly find an understanding and I didn’t like the fact that almost all the wolves eventually joined Jacobs pack. He should have wandered around a little before finding a new place to live in.

I too was expecting to see a little more conflict between Rosalie and Bella over Nessie but that kind of became irrelevant with Nessies own special abilities. With her growing up so fast and being able to show thoughts to others… let’s just say that I almost hated the idea of Bella and Edward actually having a baby almost as much I hated the complete lack of carnage in the end. Yes, it’s a book that shows how conflicts should be dealt with and I would have hated to see Jasper die in the end but I’d rather lost him and mourned than dealt with the staggering realisation of such anticlimax of an ending.

It’s been a while since I read the books and I haven’t reread them since so I don’t remember everything about the books. Meyer created a wonderful world but in a way she rushed to the end. She has lived with the story for years now and I can understand her wanting to be done with it, but in my opinion she could have done it better and her editor at least should have convinced her to perhaps leave some stones unturned. Sure she can wrap up the story of Edward and Bella, but to tie Jacob to Bella’s child completely removing the delicious tension her two suitors had was a mistake in my opinion. She may want to return to this world she’s created later and write more but so many options have been locked away now. That’s why I wonder, had this story only been another addition to her long list of books instead of works of a new writer, would she have ended it differently.

And as much as I loved that tender moment Bella and Edward had in the end where she lifted her shield and showed him her memories (and that’s a real accomplishment since I usually hate that kind sappy endings), I was left wondering what would happen if Edward accidentally saw in Bella’s thoughts the pain she endured in silence when he turned her. It might be a source for some good conflict to come. But that’s just wishful thinking. Maybe ten years from now, Meyer will write a Twilight story for adults instead for teens.

  31. You know, that’s a really good point that I kind of have to remind myself of, this was a story that was geared at the teenage market and it’s my own fault for getting sucked in so completely and wanting something more complex. But the pieces were all there!!! It wouldn’t have been that hard to do.

I, too, loved when Bella was able to open her mind to Edward temporarily. He could only see what she wanted to show him though, it was Aro that could read the whole history of people, Edward can only see what someone is currently thinking about. So as long as she controlled herself, that was ok. But yeah, it would be good if he were to find out the pain she endured. Perhaps if they do another one down the line, wherein maybe they’re turning another vampire for some reason, then Bella would have to come clean about the morphine doing nothing. I don’t know.

I, too, really liked the Jacob/Leah growing closer story and thought maybe they would potentially get together, but that got dropped! In fact, Leah pretty much disappeared except to growl here or there after Renesmee was bored. That annoyed me, I liked her being less of a bitch and wanted to know more.

Ahhh so Jasper is your boy is he? I must admit, he is highly intriguing and I would love for him to get his own story. Just the little bit about how he scared J Jenks made me interested, since I would assume he would use his powers to calm him instead of frighten. His reaction to Bella being so in control was interesting too, I’d like to see him explored more in depth. Maybe she’ll do it someday.

I really don’t mind the happy ending part, I do want Edward and Bella to be happy together, I just wish that everything wasn’t so wrapped up in a ribbon. Let her at least still be estranged from Charlie and hurting over that. Let Jacob boot them out of his life like he swore to when she told him she was going to change. Something! But I love the characters enough to be happy that they’re happy, even in the fictional world they exist in.

There is plenty of potential for further stories, because you know damn well the Voltari would not be content to not go after them down the road. And I’m sorry but I’d like to see Jane or Alec or Dimitri get offed…why go to the trouble to make me loathe them when they just get to walk away to threaten another day? We’ll see if she really is done with it, or if she’s just going to do the Edward viewpoint story or stories and that be it. I do still want more…haha. It’s never enough!

  32. I am going to buy that book of Edward’s POV. I bet it is as good as Bella’s.

I hope no one hates of me but I am totally a Jacob fan. I do not hate Edward, he is so compelling and awesome but if I were Bella I would have choosen Jacob.
I mean is you get down to it Jacob is the perfect guy or at the very least a best friend. Edward always did things for Bella’s own good (even if she didn’t want to) and was not foward about what he was. Jacob was the opposite of that he was way more open about what he thought and thought about what she wanted.

  33. Popping in to ask–the only thing I vaguely know about Twilight is it’s about vampires, right? Or do I have that mixed up with something else. If it’s about vampires, no thanks; I’ve read a couple of Anne Rice books years back and that ’s more than plenty. Also, if it’s aimed at a youth market, I mean, you’re talking to someone who has never read a word or watched a moment of any of the Harry Potter movies. I just fumble along and try not to take it personally when people mock me for being out of touch :)

I very rarely read fiction anyway. I only have enough room in my life for so much ridiculous nonsense, and that spot is already filled by DOOL!

  34. JD, go to Stephenie Meyers.com and you can read as much as she’s done…it’s 264 pages but a quick read due to the fact that you already know the storyline. It’s awesome from Edward’s point of view.

I like Jacob, I just don’t like him for Bella. I feel like he tries to manipulate her too often, using his feelings as weapons, whereas Edward tries to shield her. I like Jacob, I just like him better as the best friend.

Paxton, yes it is about vampires, it’s a love story between a vampire and a human girl. His vampire family does not feed on humans, they feed on animals, but Bella’s blood is the most appealing blood he’s ever scented. Initially he wants to kill her but he is so drawn to the person she is that he ends up falling for her instead. It’s really nothing like the Anne Rice books, at least as far as I remember, only read one of them. This one has a different mythology, these vamps can exist around humans and aren’t killed by sunlight or stakes to the heart and whatnot. There’s a lot more of course but I won’t bore you!

Days is enough nonsense for anybody!
